Kilifi Governor Amason Kingi wants action taken against Jubilee Party aspirants who allegedly destroyed their rivals’ posters during the President’s Sunday visit.

Uhuru and Deputy President William Ruto toured Mombasa and Malindi yesterday and will be in Lamu, Kilifi and Tana River on Monday.

Kingi said the politicians either destroyed the campaign material or covered them with their own.

Noting this is against the elections code of conduct, the Governor said IEBC must take action.

He and Malindi parliamentary candidate Aisha Jumwa further accused the Jubilee aspirants of hiring goons to destroy their campaign posters.

“It is wrong for anyone to use hired goons to deface campaign posters. My opponents have resorted to this because they have sensed defeat,’’ he said a meeting with Muslim leaders at Karima in Shella ward

He noted the politicians pledged to hold peaceful campaigns but are now engaging in malicious acts.

On Sunday morning, residents of Malindi woke up to new posters of Jubilee aspirants along main roads ahead of Uhuru and Ruto’s tour.

It is  believed other leaders posters were destroyed on Saturday night.

Jumwa, who is Kilifi woman representative, said she will not be cowed by such acts as she is sure she will win the election.

She urged youths to shun politicians who ask them to engage in lawlessness which could land them in trouble.

“We shall report the matter to police and the IEBC so action is taken against culprits.”
