Candidates from NASA affiliate parties want the Nyanza presidential campaign team to restrict itself to drumming up support for Raila Odinga.
The candidates have accused members of the team of using NASA resources to campaign for their rivals running on ODM tickets.
Kisumu West MP Olago Aluoch, who is defending his seat on a Ford Kenya ticket, said the team charged with drumming up support for Raila’s presidential bid was instead concentrating on calling for a six-piece voting.
He said this had caused friction between NASA candidates and could hurt Raila’s chances of winning the presidency. “Some members of that team are also seeking political seats and have only been campaigning for themselves,” Aluoch said.
The team led by Homa Bay Woman representative Gladys Wanga, nominated MP Oburu Oginga, former Kabondo Kasipul MP Paddy Ahenda and party activist Bob Madanje have been traversing the region campaigning for Raila. They have also been asking residents to elect ODM candidates only.
Citizen Convention’s Party leader Grace Akumu accused the team of causing tension between ODM candidates, those of other parties and independents.
“Should Raila lose, the campaign team will be held responsible. They are only obsessed with campaigning for ODM candidates at the grassroots and not our presidential flag bearer,”Akumu said.
But Oburu dismissed the critics, including the Luo Council of Elders, saying the team has also been asked to drum up support for ODM candidates.
