Sacked soldier denies stealing GSU officer’s Sh46,000 phone, granted bail

An ex-military officer was charged yesterday with stealing a mobile phone inside a GSU camp in Nairobi.

Kenneth Okoth, 25, was accused of stealing the Sh46,000 phone from Joshua Odongo on July 12.

According to court records, Okoth was fired from the military in December 2016 for desertion. It is reported that he had been sneaking into the GSU camp by hoodwinking some officers.

On June 12, he requested for Odongo’s mobile phone to call a relative, as Odongo stepped into the bathroom.

Police said the suspect left with the phone. The matter was reported to the police who looked for Okoth and arrested him on August 12.

Okoth denied the charges before chief magistrate Emily Ominde and was released on Sh20,000 bail. The matter will be mentioned on August 28.
