Once again, it is a girl child victory. The same way it happened in 2017 Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE), a girl has emerged the best student in the 2017 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE). In fact, this time round, two girls come out the top students followed by a boy in the third place

Karimi Naomi Kawira of Pangani Girls High School came first in 2017 KCSE with a mean score of 87.011. Coming second is another girl, Chepchumba Sharon of Moi Girls Eldoret emerged the second best student with a mean score of 86.83, followed by Kamau Brian Maina of Alliance High School.

In fourth and fifth place respectively is Odero Donata of Lenana School and Harriet Mueke of Mary Hill.

615, 773 candidates sat for this exams in the previous month of November. The KCSE exams were done between November 6 and 29 and only took 11 days to be marked. The CS acknowledged the cooperation with other ministries such as Ministry of Defense among other ministries for the success of exams` marking

As per result released by Ministry of Education CS Fred Matiang`i, the number of straight As in 2017 KCSE exams increased by one as compared with that of 2016 where 141 students scored As.

CS also revealed the president`s order to the Ministry of Health to issue the 3 million secondary school students with NHIF medical cover. He confirmed the directive is in the process and will bear fruits.

CS Fred Matiang`i seriously warned about any attempt of exam illegality and irregularity in the coming examinations.

The 2017 KCSE results released today would even add more spark to social media. The ball is now between the KCPE top girl Goldalyn Kakuya and KCSE top girl Naomi Kawira. Who is the best motivational speaker? Will Naomi Kawira also visit His Excellency President Uhuru Kenyatta at the State House?

Lastly, following the victory of the girl child in 2017 KCPE and KCSE exams, do we agree that advocacy for the girl child education has succeeded? What about the education standard in this great nation, Kenya?
