Nyeri residents storm hotel over rigging claims

Some Nyeri residents have pitched camp at the Aberdares Country Club following claims that some ballot papers for the Jubilee primaries were being marked at the hotel.

Unconfirmed reports claim that Tetu MP Ndung’u Gethenji is holed up in the hotel where he was reportedly meeting electoral board officials and presiding officers of Tetu Constituency.

He is said to have been dining with the officials when the residents stormed the hotel.

Mr Gethenji and the officials retreated into their rooms.

A personal assistant of the lawmaker was injured after some residents attacked him when they stormed the hotel at around 11pm Tuesday night.

Police have been deployed at the hotel grounds.
