New sources of power key in boosting supply

With the increasing demand for electricity in Kenya, it is necessary to exploit new sources of energy.

Currently, we rely on oil, hydroelectric and geothermal sources.

The government recognises the importance of energy sources for Vision 2030 goals to be realised.

Efforts from various sectors to discover and exploit new sources of power will greatly help in reducing the cost of energy.

Kenya has other resources that can be used for energy production.

In urban areas such as Nairobi, Mombasa, Kisumu, Nakuru and Thika, there are huge amounts of garbage.

It is possible to use the waste for energy.

The government should consider joining forces with players in the private sector and venture into energy production.

Consider water hyacinth in Lake Victoria, which is often seen as a menace as it is slowly choking the lake and hampering fishing.

For years now, efforts to eradicate the weed have been made but proved futile.

We had not realised that the invasive plant could be used to generate biogas and electricity.

A project has been launched to turn the plant once seen as a curse into a blessing.

This will greatly improve the lives of the people in counties near the lake and the country at large.

Biogas International Ltd will help in boosting energy supply while cleaning the lake.
