Speaker Susan Kihika went to the High Court to nullify a ruling by the Political Parties Disputes Tribunal barring her from running for the Senate seat.

Ms Kihika, who is the Jubilee Party nominee, was stopped from running on grounds that she had not resigned as speaker.

Through lawyer Tom Ojienda, Ms Kihika sought a judicial review order quashing the decision and the entire proceedings by the disputes tribunal.

She argued that the tribunal disobeyed a court order issued on Monday, stopping it from looking into the complaint filed by Margaret Wanjiku.

Mr Ojienda told the court that the tribunal was served with the order but delivered a ruling against his client in the evening. He asked the judge to affirm that the order was still in force.
