Meru Governor Peter Munya has claimed that his rival Kiraitu Murungi is Deputy President William Ruto’s ‘project’.
The governor alleged that Mr Ruto is interested in Meru because he (Munya) is a threat to his 2022 presidential ambition.
Speaking Friday at Nguthiru Stadium in Tigania East, Mr Munya said his ambition for vying for presidency will not be derailed by anyone.
“We cannot have leaders who cannot push for development agenda in the county due to their selfish interests.
“Our senator and other Jubilee party aspirants are Ruto’s project in Meru. Their main aim is to ensure Munya does not push for what is rightfully meant for the Meru people,” he said.
The governor was accompanied by his Deputy Peter Kaberia, Tigania West MP David Karithi, Meru Senatorial aspirant Lawyer Mugambi Imanyara, Tigania East Parliamentary aspirant Josphat Gichunge Kabeabea and other PNU aspirants.
Mr Munya claimed the DP was sabotaging the operations of the Party of National Unity because it is a threat to him.
He said the party has 12 court cases adding that most of them cases were filed by his opponents who never wanted him to take over the party.
“We have battled it in court and won. I know we will win the remaining cases because most of the cases have no evidence or facts.
The former Council of Governors’ Chairman said he is campaigning for President Uhuru Kenyatta but he must tame his deputy and other Jubilee leaders in the county trying to fight him.
He also asked the president to make a total overhaul of security officers in the county accusing them of failing to protect citizens living along Meru-Isiolo and Meru – Tharaka Nithi borders.
He said many people have been killed by bandits along the borders but the officers led by the county Commissioner Wilfred Nyangwang’a are not taking appropriate action.
“The administrators who are supposed to protect people are now engaging in political activities. Chiefs and other leaders have been holding night meetings to plan how to rig election we are aware of their plans,” he added.
