Keiyo man surrenders after sister-in-law he spent night with dies

A 54-year-old Keiyo man surrendered to police on Friday after a widow he had spent the night with died.

Wilson Rongoei reported to Kaptagat police station after Irene Cheboi, 54, passed away in her sleep at Kipsaos, Keiyo South.

Area assistant chief Philip Ruto said Cheboi was the man’s sister-in-law.

The two are said to have had a love affair since Cheboi’s husband died 10 years ago.

“The woman is a mother of five and a grandmother. She was the wife of the man’s late brother,” the chief said.

The administrator said the two had been on a drinking spree at Kamwosor trading centre on Thursday afternoon.

“The man returned to a bar in Kamwosor to buy a bottle of alcohol commonly known as Moonlight and took it his house.”

Ruto did not give more details, saying Rongei told security agents he did not know the circumstances under which the widow died.

“Rongoei told us that he ate supper with the woman and slept only for her to turn cold at night.”

The assistant chief said police took the body taken to Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital for a postmortem.

“Police have begun investigations. We are expecting the autopsy report soon.”
