Gor Mahia on Wednesday notched a 1-0 win over Posta Rangers in an exciting SportPesa Premier League match played under heavy downpour at Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani.
In other results, Sofapaka maintained their winning streak, whilst their also were wins for Sony Sugar, Kakamega Homeboyz, Muhoroni Youth and Kariobangi Sharks.
At Kasarani, Meddie Kagere was put through on goal by Kenya international Kenneth Muguna to end the contest.
In Machakos, Sharks also defeated visiting Western Stima by a solitary goal. Francis Manoah came off the bench to score the only goal of this game with a quarter of an hour left on the clock.
Kakamega Homeboyz notched an identical 1-0 win over an off-form Bandari at the Mumias Sports complex, with Ali Bhai scoring the winner.
Ugandan import Umar Kasumba scored twice in Sofapaka’s 3-1 triumph over Nzoia Sugar.
“I am pleased with the victory and give thanks to the boys. Nzoia has many energetic boys who ran the entire game and made it difficult for us. Our aim is to exert pressure on Gor Mahia as we chase for the title,” said Sofapaka coach Sam Ssimbwa.
Meanwhile, AFC Leopards forward Alexis Kitenge has warned he is aiming to stretch his scoring breakthrough into this weekend’s “Mashemeji” derby.
Leopards will face Gor Mahia for the third time this season in a second leg league contest at the Nyayo Stadium on Sunday. The fixture had initially been planned for Nyayo, then shifted to Kasarani before being brought back to the Nairobi West-located venue.
It is in this clash – considered the biggest in the country – that Kitenge is planning to formally announce his arrival to all and sundry.
The 21-year-old Burundian has experienced a slow start to the SportPesa Premier League since his Sh1 million move from Bujumbura-based Athletico Olympique back in June.
The attacker however burst to life in style over the weekend, helping himself to a hat-trick during his team’s 7-1 demolition over Wazito in the GOtv Shield last Sunday.
