[INFOGRAPHIC] Gains in South Nyanza, Northern Kenya gifted Uhuru second term

President Uhuru Kenyatta has gains in South Nyanza and Northern Kenya to thank for securing a second term in the just concluded election.

Though this win has been challenged, an analysis of votes shows Uhuru made significant gains in these regions to boost his 2013 performance.

The results show he secured an increase of between 14 per cent and 23 per cent in all constituencies in Kisii and Nyamira counties.

His highest gain was in West Mugirango (23.4 per cent) and his lowest in Kitutu Chache South (13.2 per cent).

In the same region, NASA candidate Raila Odinga lost a lot of what was his 2013 support base by between 10 and 20 per cent.

The ODM leader’s largest loss was in West Mugirango at 20.7 per cent and his smallest in South Mugirango at 10.3 per cent.

In Northern Kenya, Uhuru gained some 71 per cent from his 2013 support in North Horr with the Opposition chief lost 70 per cent.

But Raila made good gains in Western, gaining 53 per cent in Vihiga constituency and  70 per cent in Sabatia. 

Uhuru’s 2013 score improved by between three per cent and 18 per cent.

Jubilee Party will be the most dominant single party in the National Assembly with 141 MPs and 26 woman representatives.

Analysis show the ruling coalition will control the next Parliament and a majority of counties.
