Family, friends hold memorial service for Margaret Wambui

President Uhuru Kenyatta and other family members on Thursday congregated at the St Andrews PCEA Church in Nairobi to bid farewell to their elder sister Margaret Wambui Kenyatta.

Ms Kenyatta, the second daughter of the first President Mzee Jomo Kenyatta, was eulogised as a women rights fighter.

she was elected as the deputy Mayor of Nairobi in 1969 and as the Mayor of the city for two terms from 1970 to 1976.

Her tenure in office was marked by adoption of high standards that uplifted Nairobi to the status of “The Green City in the Sun”.

During the memorial service, President Kenyatta was accompanied by First Lady Margaret Kenyatta, former First Lady Mama Ngina Kenyatta and other family members.

Others present were Deputy President William Ruto, his wife Racheal Ruto, the Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero among other leaders.

She died at the age of 89.
