The High Court sitting in Nakuru has allowed a case in which a 29-year-old man is claiming to be the late Senator GG Kariuki’s son to proceed to full hearing.

The Nairobi-based businessman, Mr Charles Maina Gitahi, filed the case on Thursday, demanding recognition.

The politician, who was the senator for Laikipia, was buried at his farm in Rumuruti on Friday.

Justice Anthony Ndung’u, in his ruling on Friday morning, directed that the case be heard this week after Mr Gitahi makes appropriate amendments to the case.

Judge Ndung’u said the orders sought by Mr Gitahi had been overtaken by events since the burial was under way at the time the case was mentioned in court.

Mr Gitahi had sought orders from the court to compel Mr Kariuki’s family to recognise him as his biological son.

He also wanted the court to order extraction of samples from Mr Kariuki’s body for DNA analysis to prove his paternity.

The case was transferred to Nyahururu law courts.

The court directed that it be heard on July 19.
