Assistant chief denies defiling 14-year-old orphan

An assistant chief from Nyandarua County has denied defiling a 14-year-old orphan before a Nakuru court.

Jonah Macharia Ndegwa, Rupala assistant chief, appeared before Principal Magistrate Joe Omido on Monday.

The court heard that the accused had on the fateful day visited the minors home in a bid to assist the minor secure a chance in an orphans needy program offered by the county government in the location.

According to the prosecution the girl stays with her grandmother and she was not around when the assistant chief visited.

The court was told that the accused directed the minor to close the door and asked her to lie on the floor where he abused her before threatening her not to tell anyone of the incident.

Mr Macharia was arrested by police on March 18 after the minor narrated the ordeal to the grandmother who later reported to police.

Mr Ndegwa was released on a Sh 200,000 bond and surety of the same amount pending hearing of the matter.

The case will be mentioned on Friday to fix a hearing date.
