Vohra enlisted for next month’s Raia Rally

Defending 2WD non-Turbo driver Samman Vohra is among the drivers enlisted for Raia Rally slated for Muranga on September 9-10.

Samman will be testing his ‘Rage Buggy’ further after the Kenya National Autocross Championship round 7 to be organised by Kenya Motor Sports Club on September 2-3. Also in the mix is outgoing KNRC 2WD champion Eric Bengi, who will be navigated by Tuta Mionki in a Kabras Subaru N12.

Others enlisted for the event include top KNRC drivers among them Steve Mwangi, his namesake Steve Gacheru, former 2WD and Group ‘S’ champion Jasmeet Chana and the Anwar siblings Shazar and Shabaz.

According to organiser Ketan Chiber, Sudir Wason, Asad ‘Kalulu’ Khan, Henry Nyoike, Shalien Mughal, Alfir Khan, Asad Anwar and Abid Ganatra have also signed up.

Sam Karangatha will be back in the event in his 2WD Subaru and will battle it out with the likes of Patrick Kibaara, Sammy Nyorri, Dan Nyorri and Gerald Maina. Kibaara, a former 2WD contender is returning from a long layoff and is expected to shake off a few cobwebs behind his Toyota Levin wheels.

Chiber said more drivers are expected to confirm participation in the event. Recce is scheduled for September 9 with the rally proper programmed for September 10 on the same route as was the Aberdare Rally that didn’t take off earlier in the year. Bengi, who has since moved on from 2WD to 4WD won the last event of Raia Rally which was held in Ngong area.
