[VIDEO] WhatsApp group administrator held for allegedly spreading hate messages

A WhatsApp group administrator in Malindi on Tuesday was arrested for allegedly sharing hate messages.

Japhet Mulewa was taken to court but did not take a plea after police sought more time to investigate.

Mulewa appeared before Malindi resident magistrate Yvonne Khatambi.

Police were allowed to detain him for five days at the Malindi police station.

Mulewa allegedly threatened to slaughter certain community members following the outcome General Election.

The magistrate said it was necessary to exercise caution, as the country has just come from an election.

In a sworn affidavit, police Constable James Muyes said the suspect was arrested in Malindi, following reports he was spreading hate messages on social media.
