Kisumu residents thronged the county airport on Friday to view the body of murdered IEBC official Chris Msando.
The late IEBC ICT manager’s body landed in the town moments after 1pm.
Kisumu governor-elect Anyang’ Nyong’o and Deputy Governor-elect Mathew Owili led residents in receiving widow Eva and other mourners.
They paid their last respects before the hearse proceeded to Ugenya, Siaya county, ahead of burial on Saturday.
MPs-elect Jared Okello (Nyando), Fred Ouda (Kisumu Central) and outgoing Kisumu Deputy Governor Ruth Odinga were present.
The leaders Msando’s murder “brutal and shocking” and said the probe should be quickened and the killers brought to book.
Nyong’o said the government should expedite investigations in collaboration with international experts.
“We will not rest until the killers of Msando are arrested and charged to ensure justice for the family,” he said.
During the requiem mass in Nairobi on Thursday, Eva asked the government to ensure justice is served.
She paid a glowing tribute to her late husband, saying he loved and cherished his family.
“He took only a single day to woo me to become part of his life,” she told mourners at Nairobi’s Consolata Shrine. “Everybody voted seamlessly for him because of his hard work. His memory will live on in the stories people are telling now.”
