President Uhuru Kenyatta is set to file a new case appealing the High Court decision to have Thirdway Alliance presidential candidate Ekuro Aukot included in the fresh election race.

It is not clear why the President is planning to appeal the decision yet the High Court ruling provided him with an opponent after Opposition leader Raila Odinga withdrew from the race.

In the ruling, Justice John Mativo noted that Dr. Aukot should be included in the repeat election slated for October 26th, 2017.

In his ruling, the judge directed the Commission to amend the gazette notice and include the Third Way Alliance leader as a candidate.

Following the directive, IEBC issued a statement indicating that all the eight candidates who participated in the August election will also be in the October poll.

“It is, therefore, the Commission’s position that the candidates for the fresh presidential election scheduled for 26th October 2017 shall include all the eight candidates who participated in the August 8th, 2017 elections,” IEBC’s statement read in part.

So far, Independent Presidential Candidate Japheth Kaluyu and his Alliance for Real Change (ARC) counterpart Abduba Dida have announced their candidature.
