Safaricom has launched a new product that will see millions of its subscribers enjoy cheap data and calls and sms services merged under one payment platform.
Dubbed the ‘FLEX’, the new platform will enable the mobile phone users to purchase cheap bundles which they will in turn use to buy flex units. According to a statement from Safaricom, any subscriber with the flex units will be eligible for data for internet browsing, minutes for making calls, local voice and sending short messages.
The product is divided into three categories known as the flex packs. The daily flex will cost the consumers Sh99 and will last for 24 hours in validity. The most expensive pack will cost the consumers Sh2, 499, with a validity period of 1 month.
Kenyans of diverse social classes may be set for a boost in terms of communication given the flexibility in pricing that will likely serve their interest of the high and low income earners.
This is an attempt by Safaricom to lure its subscribers who may slip to its rivals and maintain its dominance on the market.
“Our Consumer’s mindset is to ensure that their resources work for them; they only spend what and when they really need to,” a reads the statement from Safaricom.
It is a platform that not only targets the subscribers, but also Mpesa users. As an instance, when a user sends Sh100 to another user, the sender receives 3 flex units that can be used in calling, texting or browsing.
With the increasing internet use and the social media such as Instagram, WhatsApp and Facebook, many Kenyans will find flex to be a cheaper payment.
Other than having all resources in one bundle one also gets rewarded every time they send money through Mpesa.
