Mututho lashes out at Raila over manifesto

Former NACADA chairman John Mututho has lashed out at NASA presidential candidate Raila over his proposed plans to regulate illicit brew, chang’aa if elected as President.

Mututho termed the statement as reckless saying that the country was already rearing from the effects of alcohol and liquor consumption.

According to him, the country already had over 6m liquor addicts majority of whom were students in universities and tertiary institutions.

While on a tour in Western Kenya, Raila promised that he would legalize the brewing of chang’aa as one way of supporting local brewing.

Already, the Deputy President William Ruto has dismissed the promise adding that the number of youths engaged in the vice was worrying.

And on Wednesday, Mututho joined the debate adding that there was urgent need to set more rehabilitation centers in the country.

Mututho who is eyeing the Nakuru County gubernatorial seat termed alcohol as one of the major problems facing youths in the country.

“It’s saddening that honourable Raila Odinga is promising to legalize chang’aa which has incidentally killed hundreds of our youths,” he said.

Addressing the press in Naivasha, Mututho said that for the last one year his rehabilitation centre had treated over 600 addicts.

“Anyone seeking to be a governor or a president in this country should think about addressing the issue drugs and liquor consumption,” he said.
