Maina Kiai detained at JKIA after immigration officials demand clearance

Human rights activist Maina Kiai was detained at JKIA after immigration officials asked him for travel clearance.

He was due to catch a flight at 7.50am but the immigration people refused to stamp his passport.

The immigration supervisor at the airport Nancy Nganga didn’t say why Kiai needs clearance yet he isn’t a government official.

Recently, KHRC ran into trouble with state after the coordination board ordered its accounts frozen.

Kiai is a board member of the charitable organisation.

They obtained orders from a court stopping NGO coordination board boss Fazul Mahamed from executing the freeze order.

Later, immigration allowed him to leave.
