Governor Alfred Mutua’s Maendeleo Chap Chap party has fielded a candidate for the Kitui senatorial seat.
The party’s secretary general, Stephen Mutua Kilonzo, becomes the fourth aspirant to announce his candidature for the seat.
Kilonzo met Chap Chap leaders at a Kitui hotel to drum support for his bid. He said MCC would fast-track development in the area, and accused other parties of not doing much for the region.
“Maendeleo Chap Chap party supports faster and efficient service delivery, I urge political leaders to be accountable to the electorate,” he said.
Accompanied by a Kitui West politician Scholar Kamene, Kilonzo reached out to voters in the region dominated by Kalonzo Musyoka’s Wiper Party.
He urged the electorate not to listen to leaders who ask them to strictly vote along party lines. He likened political parties to containers, saying what was more important was the content. “Let us not be fooled into voting people based on their party affiliation without evaluating their worth.
Ask the leaders what they stand for,” Kilonzo said. Kilonzo promised to consider the youth for county government tenders if elected.
Other candidates in the race are Wiper Party’s Enoch Wambua, Paul Mutisya and Elijah Kilonzi.
