FOR HOW LONG WE WILL MASK ILLS OF OUR SOCIETY?

By Wycliffe Chakua-Atlanta Georgia

For how long will we mask the ills of our society? The longer we keep sweeping historical injustices under the carpet, the great a price Kenya will pay. It is a pity that thanks to Jaramogi Odinga, Jomo Kenyatta got the opportunity to lead Kenya. Many years down the line, the Kikuyus have forgotten this and claim that a “kehe” cannot lead the country!!!

We are a society woven by 43 community threads and that our collective strength rests on our weakest link. Yet there is a collective effort to brand some as the masters of thinking and the rest the faithful followers who are only to be seen and not to be heard. Looking at the history of great civilizations, one cannot help to wonder why Kenya is borrowing from a familiar script that will only lead to distraction!!!!

Let’s face the facts, Kikuyus only make it nice outside Kikuyu land as they know a majority have been relegated to plot owners within Kikuyu-land as the majority of the land is owned by a selective few. Most of Kikuyus do business across the country thus any instability in the country will adversely affect them. Our strength as a nation is as strong as our weakest link.

It is a known fact that even prior to independence, the Luos are the “doctors”, “engineers” aka “Luopeans” a term coined to illustrate their ease of communication using the English language, unlike Swahili.
So my fellow Kenyans, why is is that 50+ years after independence we are still clinging to the threat of leadership based on on a community and forgetting the rope made of 43 strings?

It is quite unfortunate that these elections are advancing the same defunct notion that a particular ethnic group owns the land. If allowed to call out hypocrisy, I will indicate that by endorsing a “questionable election” we are continuing to dilute our values as a nation. As history had it, any suggestion as I have stated will be pegged as fueling hatred. I beg to ask, hatred of who?

Kenya has a lot of potentials and anyone stating to the contrary should be ignored. Potential and realizing it are two different things and the latter can only be achieved via the rope and not the thread. Let’s not celebrate the oppression of one of us as this further advances our collective weakness.

The police have no right to use taxpayer bullets to widen the gap of our greatest vulnerability. It makes no sense as this will crumble us as a nation. Uhuru Kenyatta, it is under your watch that this threat faces Kenya and your presidency will be judges on how you, Fred Matiangi, William Samoei Ruto will be judged. The fact is that, under your watch, Ethiopia and Rwanda have built a better economy than Kenya. Now our neighbor in the south is threatening to overtake us. What will you attribute to be your advancement of the Kenyan nation?

It is said that power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely. Will you be a statistic to the same?
