A Senate watchdog committee nearly adjourned its sittings Thursday after Kiambu Governor William Kabogo clashed with his Senator Kimani Wamatangi.
Governor Kabogo, who appeared before the Senate Public Accounts Committee to answer audit questions raised during the 2014/2015 financial year, engaged in a bitter exchange with the senator, almost bringing proceedings to a halt.
Trouble started when Mr Kabogo declined to answer one of the questions raised by Senator Wamatangi, protesting that the issue was not part of those Auditor General Edward Ouko raised.
The Auditor in his report had questioned why the county had huge rate arrears totalling Sh2.6 billion, an amount he noted the county administration had failed to collect from property owners four years down the line.
Mr Kabogo absolved himself from blame and told the senators that he had put in place measures to encourage the defaulters to pay up, but regretted that his efforts had borne little fruit.
