Hundreds of acres of maize plantation condemned in Kitale

Anxious farmers in Elgeyo Marakwet County have expressed their fears following the spread of a maize disease that has so far destroyed over 100 acres under the crop. The fungal disease identified by researchers as smut head is causing the maize cobs to develop a powders black substance. It is spread by wind, and affected farms are to be left untilled for the next three years at the minimum.
