(KDRTV)-The Kisii County Minister of Health, Hon. Sarah Omache was in the US for a private visit but was keen to meet Kenyans, and specifically those who hail from Kisii County.
She thanked the residents who had arranged for a brief meeting through the Mwanyagetinge forum where she got an opportunity to interact and give an accurate picture of the Health Status in Kisii County as a whole.
She also met a group of Health Professionals in Minnesota, who are planning to offer free medical camps. Under the guidance of Dr. Kerandi, Mr. Joshua Ongoro and Pastor Munene Mwangi of United Central SDA Church, in Minneapolis, to discuss modalities and ways on how to engage the Diaspora to give back to their community back in Kenya.
Hon. Omache was quick to thank the architects of the new Constitution which brought in Devolution, because through it now Citizens can get services from their government with ease.
When she was nominated to her current docket, very few people in Kisii County could not access medical care because there were very few Doctors, Nurses and other Health Professionals manning the entire County. She has managed to employ over 100 Doctors who have been posted to various Hospitals across the County.
Currently, the Kisii County government has 2600 Medical Professionals, with a Ksh.2.8 Billion budget allocation.
Hon. Sarah Omache, says that her Department can do more if more funds are allocated to it in order to offer the much-needed infrastructure, medical supplies, equipment, and drugs.
The County government is almost finishing the construction of a 100 Mortuary capacity at KTRH, which she hopes will be used by the Kisii Medical School.Plans are underway and with the Medical Pharmacy and Dental Practitioners Board approval the school will open its doors to train Medical Doctors as soon as possible.
The County boasts of 10 dialysis machines, an MRI, CT Scan and X-ray machines.
Currently, the county has 7 Medical Consultants, Comprising of Physicians, Orthopedic Surgeon, General Surgeons, a Radiologist, ENT Surgeons and OBS-GYN
The KTRH Hospital’s Kitchen has been modernized by installing gas stoves(cookers), previously they were using firewood to cook food for the patients.
The Level 4 Hospitals across the County have been equipped, and Resident Doctors are available for any emergencies and specialized services.
She also had an opportunity to visit the KDRTV’s Studio for the popular @Omweri Kebwato Live Show, where she extensively explained the strides her Ministry has made to ensure all the Kisii County residents get the best of the best in Health Delivery.
On Diaspora involvement, she has invited all well-wishers to come and liaise with her Department and see which area they can help.
