Former Labour Cabinet Secretary Kazungu Kambi who is contesting the governor seat raised Sh60 million from friends at a dinner held on Saturday.

Supporters believe the money is a major boost to Kambi’s campaign kitty ahead of a tough battle against Orange Party incumbent Amason Kingi and Kilifi North MP Gideon Mung’aro of Jubilee Party.

He is running on a Kadu-Asili Party ticket.

“I am not only humbled by your presence at this function but also the trust and goodwill you have bestowed upon me. We are sure of victory comrades. Let’s press on,” said Kambi who was sacked by President Uhuru Kenyatta last year over graft allegations that were later dismissed.

Among the key aspirants who mobilised resources for the event were running mate Maureen Mwangovya, senatorial hopeful and former Malindi MP Lucas Maitha, Kilifi North aspirant Pascal Maitha and his Magarini counterpart Franco Esiposito alias Kasoso wa Baya.

Mr Kambi who has intensified his campaigns held a big rally at Malindi stadium on Saturday barely a day after the fundraiser where he asked voters to reject governor Kingi, accusing him of failing to deliver residents from poverty.
