Vihiga Governor Moses Akaranga has invited his counterpart in Kisumu, Jack Ranguma, to join his Peoples Progressive Party of Kenya (PPK).
Mr Akaranga told Mr Ranguma to be cautious as he takes part in ODM nominations, saying politics is full of “dishonesty.”
He told the Kisumu governor to consider his party as an option should ODM not hand him its ticket.
Mr Akaranga said his party is part of the National Supper Alliance (Nasa) adding that its doors are open to all who wish to join.
“I am appealing to you to remain very cautious as you take part in your nominations. I have been into politics long before you and I know what it is. You must sleep with one of your eyes open,” Mr Akaranga told Mr Ranguma when they met youth at Dunga beach in Kisumu Town on Wednesday.
Earlier there were speculations the Kisumu governor would defect from ODM to PPK following closed door meetings between the two governors before the joint Kisumu event.
However, Mr Ranguma said he is confident of winning the ODM ticket during the April 13 nominations.
“I have a date with you on April 13 and I know you will vote for me. You are the owners of the party and I am confident you will vote for me and protect my votes as well,” Mr Ranguma told residents.
He went on: “I should not jump ship before you deny me the chance. I am an ODM member and pushing for our leader Raila Odinga to fly the Nasa flag. I have asked Governor Akaranga to support him and he has agreed to do so.”
Mr Akaranga urged voters in Kisumu to turn out in large numbers during the ODM primaries and vote for Mr Ranguma.
If you sense danger, look for me for a certificate,” Mr Akaranga told Mr Ranguma.
“Let the people deny you the chance in the general elections and not at the party level,” he said.
There have been fears in Mr Ranguma’s camp that he could be denied the ODM ticket in favour of Senator Anyang’ Nyong’o who is perceived to be a close ally of Mr Odinga, the ODM party leader.
However, ODM Secretary-General Agnes Zani and senior party officials have allayed fears that some people will be favoured.
Prof Nyong’o has also among other contestants for the seat.
The two are facing fierce challenge from Dr Hezron McObewa and Deputy Governor Ruth Odinga.
