A county assembly committee has given the Chinese contracted to build the Standard Gauge Railway in Narok one week to respond to claims it is discriminating against locals.

Residents of Suswa and Duka Moja have accused China Communication Construction Company (CCCC) of employing outsiders at the expense of residents.

The Committee on Labour and Social Welfare, led by Kipipiri MP Samuel Gichigi, was also told Chinese workers were harassing residents.

“We want to ensure all foreign companies comply with our labour laws. We will carry out audits to get these companies to give us lists of all their foreign employees, their designations and qualifications,” Mr Gichigi said when the team visited the area.

But Wilson Zheng Zheng, a CCCC representative, dismissed the claims, saying the company had employed 572 locals out of 696 employees.
